Young Neighbourhood champion
Shannon Doherty

A community remains vibrant due to good neighbours and this year we are delighted to be honouring a young neighbourhood champion of the community.
Shannon is the eldest of eight children, she is a great help to her family and takes responsibility for the younger members.
She supports her own parents in the parenting role of her siblings and provides an excellent role model for her brothers and sisters. She is in her last year at school, a good scholar with a talent for Art.
For the past two and a half years Shannon has been a very helpful member of the Yo Club. She is always helpful and willing to take a lead with activities.
At the club she always promotes good behavior, acting responsibly and always sets a good example to others.
She is respected by the young people who attend as well as the other helpers. Her ability to stay calm and talk to the young people about issues that affect them is commendable.
Twelve months ago, Shannon applied for funding on behalf of the young people of the club, to the Youth Opportunities Fund. This was to enable Yo Club members to go on a Residential. She was successful in her bid, and eight young people had the opportunity of a weekend in the Lake District, which was the first time that some of these young people had been on this type of outing away from their home town.
Shannon is a very responsible young lady, who is a credit to her parents, and a valuable member of the Yo Club. She also enjoys sport and is also keen footballer.
So, please congratulate our young neighbourhood champion for 2011 - Shannon Doherty.
